Re-make up 1998, Mixed Media

This body of work restructures reality through humorously misappropriated

readymade objects and dehumanized commercial images. The effect of mining

the content of these images is to challenge our perceptions of identity.

I embrace a level of functional dissonance in my work. For example, the gigantic

boot sandwich is a paradox that has not existed before. The paradox inherent

in this work neutralizes the conventions we assign to the individual objects,

and encourages fantasy and parody, allowing our own self-conceptions to play.

Through subtle and obvious manipulations, I assign the non-sensical to reality,

and in doing so create a discourse on the notion of actuality that might act as an

analgesic. I often search for the alter-ego of each object to foster a new situation

in which the cultural implications and intentions that rest somewhere below its

surface can become more dominant.
